Reconnix CEO named as a finalist in the 2014 FDM everywoman in Technology Awards.

Pat Nice, CEO and founder of Reconnix, has been announced as a finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year category – sponsored by Alcatel-Lucent.

Monday, 10 February 2014 – Pat Nice, CEO and founder of Newark-based technology company Reconnix, a business that specialises in providing Linux and Open Source Managed Services, Digital Delivery, Cloud Infrastructure and Managed Hosting solutions, has been named a finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year category in the annual 2014 FDM everywoman in Technology Awards.

The everywoman in Technology Awards celebrate women creating, advancing and deploying technology across UK Plc. These awards champion the female talent in the sector, whether as scientific innovators, rising stars within technology businesses, founders of tech start-ups or IT leaders in FTSE100 companies.

This year, Pat Nice, joins Roberta Lucca, Co-Founder, CMO, Bossa Studios and Alicia Navarro, CEO and Co-founder, Skimlinks, both from London, in the running for the Entrepreneur of the Year category – sponsored by Alcatel-Lucent.

Maxine Benson MBE, Co-Founder of everywoman comments, “Technology offers a hugely varied and rewarding career path, and one many women do not want to leave. 95% of the women who attended our 2013 everywoman in Technology Academies felt they were able to fulfil their career aspirations within the sector. With the increase of jobs in tech opening up in the future, organisations need to reach out to the female 50% of the population and many forward-thinking companies are doing just that. The incredible women announced as finalists today are the role models we need to encourage more women to fulfil their career aspirations in IT and we wish them all the best of luck at the awards ceremony next month.”

Pat Nice, CEO and founder of Reconnix commented, “It’s a great honour to be recognised amongst such prestigious company. As women, in a largely male dominated industry, it’s important to enable ourselves to be recognised as strong role models for future generations of female tech entrepreneurs.”

Sheila Flavell, Chief Operating Officer and Founder Director of Title Sponsor FDM Group states, “We are thrilled to be able to partner with everywoman once again and to support them in their mission to encourage more women into IT careers. FDM is fully committed to helping more women further their careers within this rewarding and creative industry and opening the pipeline for future talent. With an increasing need for IT skills throughout the UK across all sectors, it is vital that we make technology female friendly and actively encourage women to pursue IT as a career path.”

Julian David, Director General of techUK adds: “We are delighted to support the 2014 FDM everywoman in Technology Awards. One of the biggest challenges for the UK tech sector is attracting appropriately skilled employees. We need a greater representation of the working population to join UK tech companies and help support the continued growth of the sector. In particular, we need to work hard to attract smart, skilled women who are not currently attracted to the sector and communicate the career opportunities in tech that are open to all. Tech UK must remain focused on attracting great women to the sector, retaining them and helping them to flourish and succeed.”

Cormac Whelan, CEO, Alcatel-Lucent UK & Ireland adds: “Whatever you do in life there will always be challenges, roadblocks and even nagging inner doubts that can act as powerful deterrents. These women prove that vision, commitment and self-belief can overcome any barrier; they are truly inspirational.”

techUK, the new platform for the whole UK tech ecosystem, has a vision for the UK to be a world-leading digital economy and aims to significantly grow the tech sector industry to 1.3million jobs by 2020 (representing 7% year on year growth) creating an additional 545,000 jobs. With 44% of Technology CEOs expected to increase headcount in contrast to 23% across all industries*, it is an economic imperative that more women enter the sector. The FDM everywoman in Technology Awards programme is succeeding in uncovering female role models whose stories and achievements will open the eyes of more young girls to realise that studying STEM subjects can lead to an exciting, rewarding career.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 19 March 2014 at the Sheraton Park Lane.
